Kajiado county once again appeared wrongly on the international media after a senior Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif was shot dead in Magadi by police in unclear circumstances. He specialized in investigative journalism and had to flee from his mother country in fear for his life.
The police spokesperson has admitted that the police officers shot dead the journalist after the vehicle he was traveling in early evening failed to stop after being flagged down by the police on suspicion that it was a stolen vehicle.
His death led to a demonstration by a section of journalist fraternity in Pakistan claiming that they suspected his death was “Fishy”.
The Pakistani president has sent condolences to the journalist’s family.
Following this tragic event, several questions abound:
- His death comes after two Indian nationals also suspiciously disappeared in Kenya and are believed dead.
- Why did the Police use deadly fire, instead of mere immobilizing the vehicle?
- At least six of the bullets fired were all directed to the passenger’s seat where the journalist was seated. None was fired towards the seat of the driver. Is there a reason for this?
Investigations have been launched but all considered the death of the journalist will again put the country in a diplomatic storm.
