One on One With Daniel Kanchori
The race for the Kajiado East parliamentary seat has attracted a lot of attention and has been coveted by many; it is a
lucrative seat with major political significance. One of the Leading aspirants for the seat is former Kitengela MCA and advocate Daniel Kanchori. Kitengela Biznet had the opportunity to take him to task over his bid for the seat and what his agenda for the seat is about.
What is your story?
My name is Daniel Kanchori an advocate of the high court of Kenya and currently serving as the chief administrative officer in the Kajiado County Government. Am also a former MCA Kitengela ward. I was born and raised in Kajiado County,
What makes you think you are best suited to be MP for Kajiado East?
Three things put me in good stead to the MP for Kajiado East.: One, I have served as an MCA for the Kitengela
Ward, this I believe was the best training for me to take on added responsibilities as a member of parliament,
Two, as an MCA I have an enviable track record which included the construction of the first public toilet in Kitengela, I oversaw the setting up of a modern stadium despite the big challenges from some private developers, I also initiated the coming into place of modern early childhood and development classes in all public primary school and finally, I fully understand the intricacies and challenges of the constituency.
Three, as an advocate of the high court of Kenya I am best qualified to articulate issues affecting the electorate in the national assembly. ”Chagua ile Punda inajua kazi”
If elected, what are your plans for the constituents?
Development flows and follows good roads. The Constituency has no tarmacked road save for the main artery. I intend to improve the road infrastructure and see that the feeder roads are tarmacked. I have in mind the Kitengela – Rongai access road, the Birika – Pipeline road and the Sultan Hamud -Konza – Isinya roads. Additionally, I would strive to ensure that women and the youth from Kajiado East constituency are given the first priority when it comes to employment in the parastatals.
Describe the challenges you expect to surmount as the next MP?
Kajiado East is a vast constituency with poor infrastructure which means that it is a challenge to speedily get the necessary and essential services down to the village levels.
How would you describe the present political temperature in the county?
It is a period for political realignment both for the incumbents and aspirants. The electorates are also relatively well informed compared to yester years. It means that the selling points are bound to be issue based.I see competion for every seat going to the wire. Every vote will therefore count.
What is your party of choice?
Orange Democratic Movement -ODM
Why ODM?
The country is going through a transitional period, and transition periods historically are very sensitive times. You therefore need very safe pair of hands to manage ttransitions. It is my conviction that Raila Amolo Odinga is the safest pair of hands compared to the other declared presidential candidates.
I am sure when he steps into the big office-which I know he will- then his main agenda would be to ensure that he leaves a commendable legacy.
What will you do different from what the incumbent is doing?
The role of an MP is to articulate the issues bedeviling his constituents and also to be the link between the County and the national government. I will therefore strive to have KERRA and KENHA tarmac the many feeder roads, tasks which fall under them bit of the national government. Additionally, If elected I would ensure that there is a public Schools in every ward in Kajiado East. It is sad that today children criss cross to other constituencies to attend school.
Your final thoughts?
We are a very peaceful constituency despite it being so cosmopolitan. with effective leadership, the constituency is capable of reaching even higher heights of development. I shall provide that leadership.
