Monday 11 July 2022 has been declared a public holiday for Muslims to celebrate the special religious day. But what is Eid al-Adha?
Here is what you need to know
a. Also called the Holiday of the Sacrifice; It honors the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son Ishmael as an act of obedience to God’scommand.
b. Biblically, it would be the attempted sacrifice of Isaac.(Genesis ch. 22)
c. In commemoration of this act, Islamic Faithful ritually slaughter a sheep with one third of the slaughtered meat consumed by the family which offers the animal, while the rest of the meat is distributed to the poor and the needy.
